Philleann is a composer of enchanting Celtic instrumental music that weaves the folk tradition with classical influences, creating grand cinematic soundscapes full of melody, emotion, fantasy, and adventure.
I wrote this merry little hornpipe several years ago while I was a member of an Irish traditional folk band. It took me some time to name the tune, and it tried on various different titles until it found one that seemed to fit best. Old Toby is a reference to the pipe tobacco enjoyed by the fellowship of Hobbits in Lord of the Rings. Being a big LOTR fan myself I could sort of imagine a group of happy Hobbits dancing a Hobbiton hornpipe to this tune. Hopefully it gets your feet tapping too!
